The Sonlig Mobile Digital Library (MDL) is a small, inexpensive, web server based on the Raspberry Pi credit card sized computer. The MDL creates a Wi-fi hotspot so that mobile smartphones or other computing devices with no Internet connection can access content on the library. It can easily be powered by batteries charged from solar cells. The entire MDL costs just over $100 USD. Adding solar charged batteries bring the cost to around $200 USD.

The web content on the server is called RACHEL and is provided by World Possible. The content includes Wikipedia for Schools, Khan Academy, Health and Medical References, K-12 textbooks, World Literature Ebooks, Computer Learning videos and more. There is also an option that allows educators to easily upload their own content through a web page and other methods.
